Join the Straus Historical Society for a special presentation in Brevard this May! Executive Director Joan Adler and Assistant Director Catherine Smith will share the story of Harry H. Straus — visionary founder of Ecusta — whose innovation, compassion, and community spirit helped shape the region. Drawing on SHS research, newsletters, and conversations with Straus family members, this program offers a deeper look at Harry H. Straus’ enduring legacy in Brevard and beyond. We look forward to connecting with the community and visiting the many sites he helped create and inspire.
Straus Park Upcoming Events
Friends of Straus Park, a neighborhood association, is the steward of a lovely memorial park dedicated to honoring the memory of Isidor and Ida Straus. It is located on West 106th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue. Friends of Straus Park maintains the park's infrastructure, cleanliness, and natural beauty while programming events for the community yearlong. All of this work is supported by donations and the efforts of volunteers.
Friends of Straus Park will commemorate the 114th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, with a naval historian’s presentation about the Titanic sinking and the Straus family’s part of this important history. Local politicians will join us to speak. And, Friends of Straus Park leaders will also announce exciting news about the park’s activities for the year ahead, including the exciting FOSP Summer Music Series.
Re-live or experience anew the Beatles magic at Straus park! Featuring Steven and Gavin – a fabulous Beatles cover duo who often are the heartbeat of the Imagine Circle in New York City’s Central Park. They’ll be in Straus park to create fun and entertain our community.
Bring the family for a concert of Latin music and danceable rhythms right at Straus Park. FoSP will feature faculty musicians from the Bloomingdale School of Music in this exciting concert. Bring friends and family to enjoy the event.
Last year’s show tune concert was a super hit. So, FoSP decided to do it again! Join for a fun and musical romp through Broadway show tunes and other popular songs. A singer will be performing songs we love to hear and sing along to – with piano accompaniment of course.
