Letter from the Chairman
SHS is committed to research, document, preserve, and educate the public regarding the history of the Straus family. Throughout this year we have continued our many ongoing projects. We often make new discoveries, enriching our understanding of the factors that enabled Straus family members to make significant contributions to their country and to the world. These accomplishments were made possible because of your support.
Educational Grants in Public Policy In 2017, SHS established the Straus Historical Society Scholarship Program to support the continuing education of students whose professional objective is advancement in the field of public service. The Program reflects the Straus family’s long and honored history of public service and philanthropy. In 2023, we awarded four scholarships. This was made possible because of your support. Archiving Work Continues Catherine and Joan have been editing and preparing several collections and cataloging new acquisitions. The Archive Committee meets regularly to ensure the proper preservation of all the materials and to evaluate the policies and procedures for digitization. Morse Charitable Trust Annual Matching Grant We are grateful to the David A. and Mildred H. Morse Charitable Trust for honoring SHS with a Challenge Matching Grant. Because of your generous, earmarked contributions, an additional year of funding was raised. |
