On April 5th, Joan will be giving a presentation to a group in Netanya, Israel who is interested in Nathan Straus, his history and his philanthropy in then Palestine. Because of the time difference, this Zoom is scheduled for 8 am.
Middletown Historical Society

On April 19th, Joan will be speaking to the Middletown (NJ) Historical Society about the Middletown estates of Percy and Herbert Straus. Both men owned 100 acre farms in Middletown at the beginning of the 20th century. Percy and his family left Middletown in 1915 after his house and large art collection burned to the ground. Herbert and his family remained in Middletown until his death in 1933. Joan will talk about the history of the Straus family with particular emphasis on Percy and Herbert and will show many photographs of Hebert’s home a Middletown Farm.
Birmingham Holocaust Education Center

On a date in April to be announced, Joan will be speaking with the Birmingham (AL) Holocaust Education Center at their Yom HaShoah event. She will talk about her book, For the Sake of the Children: The Letters Between Otto Frank and Nathan Straus, Jr. She has been asked to expand on this talk during a second presentation to teachers and other educators.
Two Great Families and their Temple

During the week of August 2-5, Joan Adler, Karen Franklin and Warren Klein will be presenting their talk, Two Great Families and their Temple: The Strauses, the Lehman's and Temple Emanu-El and Temple Beth El. This talk will be for the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies Conference in Philadelphia, PA. If it is not possible to give this talk in person, they will do a Zoom presentation.

Straus Park Upcoming Events

Friends of Straus Park, a neighborhood association, is the steward of a lovely memorial park dedicated to honoring the memory of Isidor and Ida Straus. It is located on West 106th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue.
Art in the Park
